Privacy Policy for Waymark

At Waymark, we build tools to help families connect. Because our app is designed to capture your family’s most precious memories, quotes, and audio, your privacy is our absolute highest priority. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use the Waymark mobile application and website.

1. Information We Collect

To provide the Waymark experience, we collect the following types of information:

Account Information: When a parent or guardian creates an account, we collect your name, email address, and a password.
Family Profile Data: You may optionally add the names, dates of birth, clothing sizes, and "favorites" (e.g., favorite foods or hobbies) of your family members to build your family's profile and use the Celebrations/Gift List features.
User-Generated Content: This includes the text, quotes, physical gift links, and journal entries you type into the app.
Audio and Media Files: Because Waymark allows you to record "Campfire Conversations," "Legacy Stones," and audio birthday cards, we collect the audio files and photos you explicitly choose to record or upload. We only access your device's microphone and camera when you grant us explicit permission and actively press the record/capture buttons.

2. How We Use Your Information

We do not sell your personal data. We use the information we collect solely to provide and improve the Waymark experience:

To sync your family’s timelines, audio files, and gift lists across your family's shared devices.
To send you timely push notifications (e.g., Anniversary "Echoes," Birthday reminders, and daily prompts).
To generate optional physical products (e.g., formatting your data and photos if you choose to print a physical "Legacy Book").
To provide customer support and troubleshoot technical issues.

3. How We Share Your Information

We keep your family’s memories private. We only share your data in the following highly restricted circumstances:

With Your Family: Data is shared internally with the family members you explicitly invite to your Waymark account.
Service Providers: We may share necessary data with trusted third-party vendors who help us operate the app (e.g., secure cloud hosting providers like AWS/Google Cloud to store your audio, or print-on-demand services if you order a physical book). These providers are legally obligated to protect your data and cannot use it for their own purposes.
Legal Requirements: If required by law, subpoena, or other legal processes, we may disclose your information to protect the rights, property, or safety of Waymark, our users, or others.

4. Children’s Privacy (COPPA Compliance)

Waymark is designed to be managed by parents and guardians. We do not knowingly permit children under the age of 13 to create their own independent accounts. All data regarding children (such as names, birthdays, and audio recordings) is provided and managed directly by the parent or guardian holding the primary account. If we learn we have collected personal information directly from a child under 13 without parental consent, we will delete that information immediately.

5. Data Retention and Account Deletion

You own your family's memories. You have the right to access, edit, or delete your personal data at any time.

In-App Deletion: As required by Apple, you can delete your Waymark account and all associated data directly within the app. Navigate to Settings > Account > Delete Account.
What Happens When You Delete: Initiating an account deletion will permanently remove your email, family profiles, text data, photos, and audio files from our active servers. Please note that this action cannot be undone.

6. Security

We take the security of your family's memories seriously. We implement industry-standard encryption (such as HTTPS/TLS) to protect your data while it is in transit between your device and our servers, and we use secure cloud infrastructure to protect it at rest. However, no method of electronic storage or transmission is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

7. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our app or legal requirements. If we make material changes, we will notify you via a push notification or an email before the changes take effect.
